Spine square, 98% intact; Color cover with typical pulp magazine overhang and edge wear and one light crease and a noticeable 2" light scratch. Partially detached back cover has partial tape repair residue along top third and bottom 2" of spine and one sm. closed tear along bottom edge. Issue contains 7 stories, 2 novels and regular Special Feature fillers. Notable for presence of John D. MacDonald Story, "This One Will Kill You." Now Rare. $39.50

The Deputy Sheriff of Comanche County, Burroughs, Edgar Rice; Tarzana, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., 1940; 1st Edition; 312 pgs. plus ad. Very Good Plus 8vo in grey boards with red titles in a Very Good Plus illus., first state (laminated) colorful DJ. The few flaws include three of four corners very slightly bumped. The DJ shows slight wear to head and heel of spine panel and there is a noticeable, 3/4" closed tear on top, right corner of back panel and a nearly invisible 1/2" closed tear to top, left corner of front panel. Three of the four DJ corners also show effects of the slight bumping. Previous owners name, date & three digit (personal library?) number neatly written on front paste down. The jacket is not priced clipped. Rates with collectible copies of this scarce ERB title. $450.00

Synthetic Men of Mars, Burroughs, Edgar Rice; Tarzana, Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc., Publishers, 1940; 1st Edition; 315 pgs. Near Fine 8vo in blue, pebbled cloth with reddish-orange titles in a Near Fine illus., first state (laminated,)not price clipped DJ. Thin line of edge wear to head and heel of DJ spine panel. Small, 1/4", closed tear at lower, rear of slightly bumped corner of DJ. Rear board corners also very slightly bumped. Noticeable, but minor, edge wear along top, rear panel of DJ. All 5 (including frontispiece) B&W illus. present. Previous owner's name, date and personal library number in ink on front paste-down. Remarkable, museum quality copy of this rare ERB First Edition. $650.00

Bradbury, Ray

Dark Carnival; Bradbury, Ray; Sauk City, Arkham House Publishers, 1947; 1st Edition. Ltd. to c. 3000 copies. Near Fine sm. 8vo in black cl. with gilt titles with a Very Good Plus Barrows illus. DJ. Author's first book. Outstanding copy with a hint of shelf wear to heel of spine and a touch of a wrinkle at head of spine. DJ shows a noticeable, but narrow line of a light rub along front fore edge fold. Along lower inch or so of front DJ panel is a visible, but variable, mottled area of rubbing which mainly affects the red titles of author's name; there is, as well, a thin edge of wear to heel and head of dust jacket spine. A bit of age darkening at peripheries of white, back advertising panel of DJ completes its list of flaws. Not price clipped. Not perfect, but rates near other, scarce collectible copies. $1300.00

Fantastic Adventures, Volume I, Number 3, September, 1939; Chicago, Ziff-Davis Publishing Co., 1939. Good Plus 4to size Pulp Magazine in illus. wraps. Dry and fragile. Full page, full color front (McCauley art) and back (Paul art)covers intact with usual creased edge wear. Spine square, 90% intact. Contains six stories and features fillers. Early number. $65.00
